screen the way that he is now. i think one of the lessons in the learning curve for president obama has been the importance of communication. a lot of different issues that are important to him to his presidency. you do have to have the presence. the whole purpose of these kinds of acts of terrorism is to destabilize you, make you afraid to get on the subway. to make you afraid to go into a mall. to make you afraid, no matter where you are, even if you're far from the actual incident. having sort of one person that is constantly communicating with you is very important. i mean we learned after 9/11 that when george w. bush didn't do it, rudy giuliani stepped in. so the whole country was waiting for him to come on the television for those first couple of weeks, because you didn't see the president. and i think president obama has learned the lesson that you do have to speak early, speak often, speak confidently and i'm glad he's kind of cautious, to be honest with you. i know sometimes there's a fetish in american for sort of bellicose language. it makes us feel we're going to get whoeve

president obama has been in constant contact with the fbi, dhs as this investigation has unravelled. there is a sense of heightened alert here, as we got news that a suspicious letter, a let are with a suspicious substance was sent to president obama. it was intercepted. that substance testing positive for ricin similar to those sent to the hill including a letter sent to senator wicker. now we want it make this very clear. at this point in time investigators do not believe there's a connection between these letters and the bombing in boston. but offously giving the timing, it has just added to the here behind the scenes. president obama is scheduled to go to boston tomorrow with the first lady to attend a memorial service there. he will meet with the families of the victims and help that community which right now is in a state of healing. but again, senior admin strag officials confirming at this point in time per their understanding there has not been an arrest. tamron? >> all right, kristin, we will check back with you. i think michael is standing by at this point. michael, i wan

. the month of the waco raid and the oklahoma city bombing. as president obama made clear today, there's still no evidence of who is responsible for this act of terrorism. >> this was a heinous and cowardly act, and given what we now know about what took place, the fbi is investigating it as an act of terrorism. >> reporter: the fbi agents tell us they have tons of video, and somewhere in there will be a picture of the person who planted these two bombs, diane. >> speaking of pictures, i want to ask you about a photo that everybody was e-mailing today. it is a man standing up on top of a roof. you can move in there, you see it right there. what do you know about it? >> reporter: well, it's very intriguing, but authorities say they're giving it no special priority. it's one of many tips and leads they're following. they're really focusing on the person who had that unusually heavy black bag the day of the race. >> as you said the strongest clues are in the nature of the bomb. >>> up next, abc's senior national correspondent jim avila, shows us just how far the blast from the bombs traveled. >>
, president obama praising law enforcement in trackinging down the suspect, late last night after authorities announced they captured their man, this is what the president had to say. >> boston police and state police and local police across the come mop wealth of massachusetts responded with professionalism and bravery over five long days and tonight, because of their determined efforts, we have closed an important chapter in this tragedy. >> nbc's kristen welker at the white house for us. what's happening at the white house today? >> no events on the president's schedule but i can tell you behind the scenes, i have been told by administration officials, the president will be in contact with his national security team when necessary to monitor the ongoing developments in this investigation. you remember when president obama spoke last night, craig, he said there are a number of questions that need to be anticipated, included what motivated these two young men to take these hape noeinous action and of course did they have accomplices? that is the question everybody wants answered now. i don't
